Are you wondering why your prophetic word hasn’t come to pass? Here are a few reasons why:
1. You haven’t turned your prophetic word into a goal. Now that you have the revelation from God concerning the direction you are supposed to be headed in, make a plan to get there. Break it down into bite-size goals. There are practical things that need to get done. For example, if you are called to the nations, start with getting your passport. Then make some connections with the people you are called to and begin to build the relationship. Set some dates for your trip.
2. You haven’t created the space in your life for God to move. Are you too busy? That’s a lie. It’s not that you are too busy. It’s that you don’t want to make time to do what it takes to reach your next level. You are comfortable with your life. Complacency and procrastination will kill the productivity you need to create the momentum for your prophetic word to come to pass. Stop lying to yourself and others. Stop making excuses.
3. You are a people pleaser. Do you let others dictate your life? Do you succumb to peer pressure easily? Is a leader in your life asking you to do the same thing over and over and you already said no? When are you going to put your foot down? You may be doing a lot of good things but are they the “God thing”? Learn to say no. Set some healthy boundaries. Stop letting people manipulate you. You don’t have to justify yourself to everyone. And if they stop being your friend because of it, were they really the kind of friend you needed to begin with?
4. You are hanging around the wrong people. Show me who you are hanging around with and I will tell you what direction your life is headed. Not everyone can go with you to the next level. Moses didn’t take everyone with him when he went to meet with God on the mountain. Some people are in your life for a reason. Some people are in your life for a season. Some people are in your life for a lifetime. Are you following too many prophetic voices? You shouldn’t follow everyone with a prophetic gifting. Not everyone is called to you. You aren’t called to follow everyone. Eventually, you will realize that you need to follow one or two people and these people are willing to make the time for you.
5. You don’t have a prophetic mentor. You may be following all the prophetic voices and read all the prophetic words on Elijah List or Spirit Fuel. It’s nice when you feel it bearing witness in your spirit. The prophetic words sound so encouraging and it’s exactly what you need to hear. But why aren’t you experiencing it yet? Aren’t you hungry for more? God is a God of relationships. Are these prominent prophets willing to pour into you on a personal level? Who do you admire? Who are you called to sit under for this season? Even Elisha understood the importance of following Elijah. He kept following him when Elijah tried to ditch him four times! Be persistent in your pursuit of establishing a healthy relationship with a potential prophetic mentor. Don’t look for perfection. Nobody is perfect. Look for sincerity. Look for authenticity. Look for solid doctrine. Be willing to show honor by investing into the person you want to build a relationship with. That may mean serving their ministry so that you can have access to them. Relationships are give and take. It may mean paying for an internship or a mentorship program. Their time is worth money and if you keep looking for a hand out it just screams that what they do isn’t valuable to you. If you can’t afford it, then sacrifice. Adjust your budget. Get creative.
Amber and I are constantly asked if we will mentor or disciple them. With thousands of followers, we can’t mentor everyone. So that’s why we created a program called the Visionaries & Dreamers. It’s how we mentor and disciple those who are hungry for more. It’s not free but we made it affordable.
