Don’t Let These 3 Dream Killers Delay Your Destiny
Feb 01, 2018There’s no doubt about it. You have a calling on your life. Whether you know it or not, God wants to use you in a significant way. For those of you who do know what God has called you to do, maybe you’ve made plans, or begun to prepare for all the ways God wants to use you to change the world and reveal his love.
If you have begun to prepare or step out in any way, perhaps you’ve already met some of these nasty little dream killers. Perhaps becoming familiar with the top 3 dream killers will help us push through, and achieve our goals like never before!
1. Perfectionism is a sneaky little dream killer that will tell you that God demands excellence of His people. It will try to tell you that things have to be *just right* before you can step out into what God has called you to do. Perfectionism has this *perfect*, nonexistent, clean and sanitized picture of the way things are supposed to be, and it will try to force you to strive for that picture.
In reality, ministry is messy, wild and unpredictable. There will never be a perfect time, and that picture that perfectionism tries to convince you to strive for doesn’t even exist. Even the most successful authors, ministers, preachers, and business people will tell you that Perfectionism is a liar.
The longer you hold out for things to be perfect, the more time that ticks by without you following that dream that God has placed inside you.
2. Procrastination is a close cousin to that other dream killer we just mentioned, Perfectionism. Procrastination comes loaded down with excuses about why today isn’t the right day to fill out that form for your passport, not the right day to make that appointment, read that book, enroll in that class, record that video, write that book, etc.
Procrastination tries to say, “Oh well you don’t have the money or the time”, but because you’re a problem solver, you can create a plan to fundraise for the money, and rearrange your schedule to where you have time to say yes to what God is leading you to do. Any excuse that Procrastination tries to throw your way, God has a divine strategy for you to overcome. Just ask!
Procrastination tries to tell you that you should be afraid of failure, afraid of making a choice. Failure is not the end. Failure only really comes when you give up. Procrastination can cause you to miss opportunities that you should have snagged while you had the chance.
3. People Pleasing is probably the biggest bully of all the potential dream killers. People Pleasing tries to tell us that we need people to like us and approve of our choices. People Pleasing will often keep us from stepping out into what God has called us to do, because we are so worried that someone won’t like it. People Pleasing wants us to try to make everyone happy.
I can guarantee you that whatever God has called you to do will not make everyone happy.
If you want to follow the call of God on your life, eventually you will have to piss some people off. That’s just the way it is.
These 3 dream killers don’t stand a chance. You have all authority, given to you by God. Don’t let these 3 liars cause you to be afraid. You are who God says you are. You are called, for such a time as this. You are a world changer. Send these 3 dream killers packing when they attempt to knock on your door.
